New Year's Weight Loss Resolutions

Obesity is one of the highest causes of death in the United States with over 400,000 people dying each year because of it. There are also millions more that are affected by being overweight, to the extent that their lives are also in danger. In fact, obesity is a condition where body fat accumulates to such an extent that it becomes a health hazard. Thanks to media reports, and the fact that people are now becoming more aware of the health risks of being obese, many people who are overweight are now taking steps to become leaner. For these reasons, losing weight is always near the top of the list for many New Year's resolutions. The following are weight loss resolutions for the new year that are simple and very effective for losing weight.

One of the main reasons for becoming obese is the lack of diligence and care with food consumption. Today's foods, especially fast foods, are deep fried and full of excessive fats and calories. Even though many fast food restaurants are using less trans fats, these foods still contain a high dosage of fat and calories. These types of restaurants and foods are a major culprit in the rise in people's cholesterol levels and waist-lines.

First New Year's Weight Loss Resolution

Therefore, the first resolution for healthier living and weight loss is to swear off fast foods. No more easy fast meals that quickly add nearly 3000 calories in a single sitting. This simple resolution will go miles.

Another common issue that causes weight gain and an increase in body fat is sugary beverages and alcohol. These drinks are so problematic because they are consumed very quickly and add "empty calories." Hundreds of calories can be consumed in the matter of minutes, and the calories consumed have no use for the body. These empty calories go straight to the belly and hips because they are mostly not used by the body for any useful purpose.

Second New Year's Resolution

The second simple weight loss goal is to avoid sodas, sugary drinks, and alcoholic beverages. Of course, having a soda once in a while may be tolerable, but if you maintain a goal of no more than one drink per week (none is better, though), you will see weight loss.

The lack of exercise is another major cause of obesity. Most folks avoid physical activity at all costs. People prefer to drive, even for ridiculously short distances. Taking a walk to the store or just around the neighborhood is an easy way to do some extra physical activity. This may take some time, but the benefits will far outweigh the lost time.

The Third Resolution

The final goal is to take a walk five days a week. Even if the walk is a short half hour walk around the neighborhood, this simple task will burn extra calories and give you time to clear your head at the end of a long day.

Watching what you eat and drink, and doing some physical activity are three simple goals to lose weight and be healthier for the new year.
